A Senator allied to Jubilee played a major role in the release of four Kenyans who had been jailed for life in South Sudan.

Baringo lawmaker Gideon Moi, who was in Juba on Wednesday, helped Kenya to secure the release of the four jailed two years ago, The Standard reports.

"Gideon met President Salva Kiir in October in Juba and brought up the matter. He pleaded with the President to release the Kenyans," a source told the local daily.

Boniface Chuma, Ravi Ghaghda, Anthony Keya and Anthony Wazome were convicted of fraudulently acquiring Sh1.4 billion belonging to the office of South Sudan President Salva Kiir.

They were in a group that included 12 people jailed for fraud and money laundering.

Their arrival was confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.However, there was no official communication about how their release was secured.

The Standard that the four arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) at 5.3O pm (Wednesday) aboard Kenya Airways Flight KQ 353.
