Mandera Senator Billow Kerrow has announced his plan to quit active politics.
He said he would not contest for any political seat in 2017.
This, he said, was in respect of the Garre Council of Elders resolution on Sunday which barred current leaders from the community to defend their respective seats in 2017.
The move, according to the elders is meant to allow people from other clans to contest for political seats.
"Pursuant to this decision, I shall not be seeking any elective position in the coming elections," he said on his Facebook account on Wednesday.
Other posts to be affected according the council's decision are those for governor, women representative, members of parliament for Mandera North, Mandera South, Mandera West and Bannisa.
The senator called for his colleagues to also honor the council's decision after 2017.
In 2012 before elections, the community agreed on rotational leadership among the 20 sub-clans.
This will be a blow to Jubilee as they will be forced to source for their point man in the county.
