According to Wamatangi, all traffic agencies had a role in the tragic crash that claimed at 43 lives.

Speaking during NTV"s AMLive show on Tuesday morning, Wamatangi said the police and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) had played a role in the accident.

"Both the police and NTSA failed to play their role in ensuring the safety of Kenyans on the road. The police, NTSA and other traffic agencies exhibited laxity in their work leading to the loss of lives of innocent Kenyans," he added.

According to Wamatangi, the police allowed the canter, weighing more than seven tonnes, to ply on that route knowing very well such canters were prohibited.

On the part of the transport agency, Wamatangi believes that the erection of bumps without proper signage led to the accident.

"The canter made it past police checks and weighing more than seven tonnes, it was still allowed to ply that route. NTSA, on the other hand, erected bumps but failed to give clear marking to warn motorists. This laxity at work should not be allowed to continue claiming the lives of innocent Kenyans," added Wamatangi.

The Senator called on the NTSA, the police and other traffic and transport agencies to be keen in carrying out their work.
