Makueni senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior has condemned the attack on Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu's bodyguard.
The senator now wants the police to carry out speedy investigation and nab the assailant who allegedly shot and injured Mwilu’s driver on Tuesday evening.
Speaking in KTN news on Wednesday, Mutula Junior alleged that the attack on Mwilu’s bodyguard could be political.
“The police must move with speed and apprehend the assailant who attacked DCJ Mwilu bodyguard,” he said during the interview on Wednesday.
Mutula Junior said that attack was allegedly meant to intimidate the Judiciary over a series of petitions filed in courts in regards to the Thursday repeat presidential poll.
The senator appealed to the government to guarantee safety of Judiciary officers and other Kenyans amid political uncertainty in the country.
Mwilu’s bodyguard who is also her driver was shot and injured by an unknown assailant along Ngong Road on Tuesday evening.
According o the police, the assailant made a way with the driver pistol and a manhunt has been launched for him.
Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has since cautioned Kenyans against speculating on the attack saying investigations are underway.
