Majority of the youth in Uasin Gishu County are not aware of the funding opportunities that the Youth Fund provides to young men and women across the country.
According to Uasin Gishu Senator Prof. Margret Kamar, this has been occasioned by lack of enough capacity building to the youths.
Speaking in Eldoret after a meeting with youth leaders from all the wards in the county, the Senator lamented that since the inception of the Youth Fund, uptake in the county had not reached half.
"Since 2006 when the Youth Fund was rolled out, consumption has been very low and we have never attained 40 percent," said Prof. Kamar.
"I have realized that most youths apart from not being aware of this fundings, some are scared of taking loans but after this session, I know that attitude will change," she added.
The Senator challenged the youth to take advantage of the funds that range from as low as sh100,000 to sh5 million loans.
