The nullification of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election was unbiased, Mombasa Senator Mohammed Faki has said.

Speaking on Monday when he inspected the Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) office block construction site, Faki said President Uhuru, his deputy William Ruto and other Jubilee leaders should accept the court’s decision and move on. “Maraga ensured the judicial independence is guaranteed,” said Faki, as quoted by the Star.He further challenged other judges to follow the example set by Chief Justice David Maraga and the Supreme Court.“The Supreme Court has set an example that should be followed by the other magistrates and other judicial staff,” he said. The senator promised to work with other elected leaders in the country to ensure there is no interference in the operation of independent constitutional offices. This comes after Maraga on Friday nullified Uhuru’s re-election and ordered the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to conduct a repeat of the presidential election. The fresh elections will be held on October 17, 2017.
