Nyamira County senator Okong’o Omogeni has called on the national government to ensure all Public Service Vehicles undergo inspections afresh.
Speaking on Thursday during requiem mass for Narok accident victims, Okong'o faulted the roads department for being 'lenient'.
“It is time the national and county governments to cooperate to ensure all PSVs undergo inspection to know the vehicles that are unfit but still operating on our roads.
"We can prevent road accidents by keeping off old vehicles from using the roads,” he said.
He urged PSV owners to take their vehicles for inspection and repair at garages to keep them fit all times to curb accidents which occurs when the vehicles breaks down.
Okong’o added that police officers serving at road blocks should be vigilant to arrest careless drivers driving at high speeds than the recommended speeds.
“Careless motorists should not be spared. Police at road blocks should ensure drivers who fail to drive at recommended road speeds are arrested and prosecuted for endangering the lives of passengers,” he noted.
