Nominated Senator Emma Mbura has dismissed allegations by Mombasa activist Kalinga Mgandi of having a love affair with her.

Speaking on Wednesday in a Mombasa court where she had filed a complaint against the activist, the Senator accused Kalinga of defamation and character assassination, saying his allegations were politically instigated. 

"I was, and still am, psychologically and emotionally affected by Mgandi's claims which went viral," she said. 

Mbura further says the activist's claims have since damaged her Rabai parliamentary ambitions, lowered her dignity and her children made objects of ridicule. 

The case was adjourned until December 11, 2016.
