Nominated Senator Joy Gwendo donated learning books to pupils of Ayaro Primary School in Kisumu East Constituency to help boost learning activities in the school.
Senator Gwendo said she took such initiative to ensure that the pupils get enough reading materials and prepare for examinations.
She said that most local schools experience shortage of learning materials adding that local leaders should chip in to support government’s efforts in providing free primary education.
Speaking at the School, the Senator Gwendo who was also a pupil at that school said that pupils should develop a reading culture adding that such could only be achieved when there are enough books.
The Senator who is also in the Senate Education Committee reported that the donated books were worth about Sh200,000.
She also announced that she will put up a modern Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre at the school to help improve education of nursery school kids.
“Construction of modern ECD Centre will start next week,” promised Gwendo.
The schools Head-teacher Dorcas Ongalo thanked the Senator saying that the books will help pupils from the school in their studies.
