Lamu senator-elect Anwar Loitiptip has vowed to fight drug abuse which he says is ‘eating’ up the young generation.

The Jubilee youthful senator says that he will push for stiffer laws and punishment for drug peddlers and barons in efforts.

Addressing supporters in Lamu town on Saturday, the senator elect said that drug abuse has consumed thousands of young people.

He said that drug peddling remains a serious challenge to economic development despite government measures put in place to fight the vice.

“I am going to fight hard and ensure that proper legislations are formulated and implemented to fight drug abuse,” he said as quoted by the Standard.

The Jubilee senator also put on notice drug peddlers saying their days are numbered.

He vowed to expose prominent people he claims could be behind drug peddling in Lamu and neighboring counties.

“I am not going to watch as innocent young lives are lost through drugs abuse,” the Jubilee senator elect said.

The senator appealed to young people to work with him in exposing the peddlers.

He pledged to push for establishment of rehabilitation centers to help drug addicts recover.
