Kilifi senator hopeful Lucas Maitha has called for political tolerance ahead of the August 8 general election.The former Malindi MP wants politicians across the divide to exercise tolerance and humility as they woo voters ahead of the polls.Addressing supporters at Malindi Town on Monday, Maitha cautioned politicians against reckless statements that could trigger animosity and violence among Kenyans.He said politicians across the political divide have the responsibility of preaching unity in their campaigns.“Politicians seeking political seats must tone down and preach peace even as they woo for votes,” he said as quoted by the Daily Nation.Maitha warned the country could plunge into violence if rogue politicians engage in divisive politics.The senator hopeful who is contesting on Kadu Asili Party urged Kenyans to remain peaceful before, during and after the polls, adding that there is no need of fighting because of political interests.“There is no point for any Kenyan to fight or hate each other because of politicians’ interests,” he said.Maitha also urged politicians eying seats across the country to engage their supporters on issued based politics and shun propaganda, arguing that propaganda can easily trigger conflict and lead to violence.Meanwhile, he has exuded confidence in clinching the Kilifi senatorial seat in the August 8 polls.The senatorial aspirant pledged to champion for residents' interests if elected in the August.
