Kitui senator hopeful Enoch Wambua has vowed to fight illiteracy and champion education if elected in the August 8 polls.

Wambua, who is contesting on Wiper party ticket claims that illiteracy is high in the county.

The senator hopeful noted that the rate of enrolment into early childhood education is very low in Kitui.

Addressing supporters on Monday, Wambua said that education, healthcare, employment and economy will be among his key top agendas.

The senator hopeful said that he will be pushing for appropriate laws to improve the level of education in Kitui.

“Kitui is among counties with high illiteracy levels and one of my agendas will be to empower locals with education by pushing for appropriate laws in the senate,” he said as quoted by People Daily.

On healthcare, the senator hopeful promised to push for more allocation of money to the county government that will see locals benefit from cheap and accessible healthcare facilities.

Wambua also pledged to create employment for young people. He said that the county has the highest number of unemployed youth.

“I will work with the county and the national government on key policies that will ensure that our young people have jobs,” he said.

Wambua noted that high unemployment rate has seen young people engage in criminal activities.

The former journalist urged locals to endorse his election saying he is the best candidate for the job.

He cautioned locals against divisive aspirants who he said are out to cause division ahead of the August 8 polls.

Wambua will be flying the Wiper ticket in quest for the seat that is currently being held by David Musila.
