Taita Taveta Senator Dan Mwazo has downplayed allegations that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto paid him to defect from Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ahead of the next general election.

Mazo said the claims by a section of Coast leaders that he was given a brown envelope to ditch ODM leader Raila Odinga are baseless claims meant to bring him down politically. According to Mazo, he opted to join Jubilee because of the interests of his people and not selfish gains as many leaders from the opposition have been claiming in rallies."I made an impartial decision based solely on facts and my own volition. My decision was also based on the welfare of the local community who want to be in government," said Mwazo, as quoted by the Standard. Mazo and Woman Representative Joyce Wanjala Lay are among the leaders President Kenyatta welcomed to Jubilee Party during their last tour at the Coast region. The remarks of Mazo come at a time when both the opposition and Jubilee are striving hard to win the support of Coast residents ahead of the August elections.
