Devolved units have been challenged to ensure they incorporate people's views before initiating any projects.
Uasin Gishu Senator Prof. Margaret Kamar says for the success of devolution, county government's need to take public participation seriously.
Speaking in Eldoret on Saturday, Prof. Kamar further challenged Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to be attending public participation forums as this will enable them to identify areas people want to be addressed by the county government.
"In representation roles, MCA's must ensure that views of all the people; men, women and special interest categories are heard and taken into consideration," said Prof. Kamar.
"County government need to pick issues that people are interested in so that development is done out of cohesion. Whenever the governor has an agenda, she should consider people's priority first," she added.
The Senator, however, called for both the County Executive and Assembly to sensitize the public to take public participation and hearings seriously.
