Kerrow says the will of the people must be respected on August 8, adding that losers in the presidential poll must concede defeat and congratulate the winner if the general election is free and fair.
Addressing supporters in Mandera town on Thursday, Kerrow asked presidential candidates to borrow a leaf from modern democracies and be ready to accept the results.
He said that the country’s democratic space has grown and that politicians must not treat elections as a matter of life and death.
Kerrow said that the tension and anxiety being experienced in the country over the coming August 8 polls is unnecessary.
“We should not treat general elections as a matter of life and death because life has to go on after the pols,” he said as quoted by the Standard.
The Mandera senator also asked Kenyans to accept the poll outcome and not to fight because of elections.
“My plea is to Kenyans to remain peaceful and united before, during and after the August 8 for a prosperous country," he said.
Kerrow at the same time urged security agencies to streamline security ahead of the polls.
He said that there will be 100 per cent voter turnout if security of voters is guaranteed before, during and after the general election.
