Her sentiments come barely a day before Kenyans join the world in marking the World Forestry Day.

“During this rainy season, let each one of us, old and young plant a tree each as we aim at achieving the minimum 10% forest cover in our country,” said Kihika.

The sentiments come in the wake of calls from leaders across the country to plant more trees especially during the rainy season.

According to Kihika, between 2001 and 2016, Kenya lost a whopping 288 hectares of tree cover.

With this in mind, the senator feels all Kenyans have a duty to replenish the lost cover.

Since her election, and even before, Senator Kihika has been passionate about the environment.

Already, she has moved a motion on the floor of the house seeking for proper disposal of solid waste.
