Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo has faulted President Uhuru Kenyatta for launching a scathing attack against Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho during the re-launch of Mtongwe Ferry on Monday. Speaking in Nairobi, Madzayo said that President Kenyatta was wrong to bar the governor from attending the function, adding that it is unacceptable. “We respect the President, but what he has demonstrated is dangerous. Abusing other politicians should be condemned in the strongest terms possible” Madzayo said, as quoted by the Star. The Senator questioned why Uhuru was only targeting leaders from the opposition, arguing that it clearly shows that he is sensing that the National Super Alliance (NASA) will dethrone him from power ahead of the August 8 General polls. “He has repeated the same in the coastal region. Why is he targeting only opposition leaders? Does this mean he is sensing defeat?” he posed. The outspoken Senator further said that Joho is a Kenyan citizen just like any other, adding that he is entitled to attend state functions. “Whether he doesn’t like Joho as a person, they could have denied him the chance to speak, but not denying him an entry, yet he is a citizen of this nation and every person has the right to attend any public function,” he said. Joho and President Kenyatta have differed in public on several accounts with the governor accusing the President of attempting to hijack projects funded by foreign governments and organizations. The governor has affirmed to rally the electorate behind Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (cord) leader Raila Amolo Odinga to send home Jubilee.
