Baringo senator Gideon Moi has weighed in on the current media shutdown in the country.

In a Facebook post on Friday, the senator reiterated that the situation is unfortunate citing that media freedom is enshrined in the constitution.

Moi further pointed out that the media stations can be investigated even if they are on air and if in case found culpable of any offence, then action should be taken hence forth.

"Over the last four days, Kenyans have been in information darkness after the government shut down the main Television stations in the country. This is unfortunate step taken by the government given that media freedom is enshrined in the constitution which the government swore to abide by and protect. Let them switch on as investigations are done and if it turns out that they are culpable, action be taken at that point," posted Moi.

The senator calls on the government to adhere to the rule of law and switch on the signals of the TV stations in line with the court order.

"I am thus calling on the government to call on to respect the rule of law it expects its citizens to obey and move with speed and switch on the signals of the stations it has switched off as per the court order," added Moi.

Citizen Tv, NTV and KTN News have been switched off since Tuesday January 30 when they tried to air live the swearing-in of opposition chief Raila Odinga.

This move was contrary to an earlier call by the government for all media stations to stay away from airing the event.
