Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has found himself on the receiving end following his educational trips cum political rallies in Gusiiland.
Matiang'i, a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta has been traversing the region urging residents to vote for Uhuru, a move that has agitated Nyamira Senator Okong’o Mong’are.
In what is perceived to be a supremacy battle, Mong’are on Saturday to referred Matiang'i as a ‘political broker’ claiming he cannot persuade even his family to vote for Uhuru.
“Matiang'i is a failure and that has been portrayed in the manner in which he has handled the education sector. He is a broker out to cheat the President yet he cannot convince even his own parents to vote for the President,” he said.
“He is a nobody in Gusii politics and I can only advise him to keep off politics and concentrate on improving the education sector. I wonder why he continues to make political statements yet the Constitution forbids him,” he said.
Mong’are termed Matiang'i a political tourist adding that he won't allow him to lecture on politics in Nyamira.
However, Borabu MP Ben Momanyi came to the defense of the CS saying he has a right to traverse the Gusii region and ‘share’ with residents.
“There is nothing wrong with Matiang'i moving around and sharing with people. He has a right to freely talk to people after all his employer hasn’t complained,” he said.
