Nyamira Senator Kennedy Mong'says African countries led by 'dictators' are fairing better than Kenya.
Mong'are, who announced a few days ago that he will run for president in August general elections, cited Zimbabwe and Uganda as countries perceived to be under the autocratic rule but are doing better than Kenya.
“Zimbabwe, which people say is led by dictatorial policies, for example, is better than Kenya which brags about being a free democracy state, because everyone in that country is free from hunger," Mong'are was quoted by the Standard.
The Senator added: "That is the same case with our neighbors in Uganda. What is wrong with us in Kenya? Why do we brag about being ahead of the two countries economically?” he posed.
He blamed President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto for the country's 'weak' economy.
“Only in Kenya do you find that water, which is locally available, is more expensive than the oil we import from Saudi Arabia. This is so because of poor leadership," he said.
The presidential aspirant made the remarks during a special ceremony at his Sironga home, West Mugirango, where he was blessed by community elders to run in the race for State House.
He said President Uhuru should be voted out as he has failed to provide solutions to many challenges affecting the country.
"How do we boast of democracy when so many people are dying of hunger? We need to vote this regime out during this year's elections," he said.
