Nyong’o said the claims by Munya are unfounded, adding that the committee operates within procedures provided for in the Constitution.

He stated that governors have no option but to appear before the committee when summoned.

“We are telling governors that they must appear before this committee when summoned to answer to audit queries pertaining to usage of public funds," he spoke Wednesday during a press briefing at Parliament buildings in Nairobi.

The Kisumu Senator further said  the committee does not favour any governor. “Governor Munya is wrong when he claims that Senate committee on public accounts investments has vested interests,” he added.

Nyong’o’ added that the committee will continue to dispense its duties and that it will continue summoning governors as stated in the law.

On Tuesday, Meru Governor Munya said asked the governors to snub the committees summon citing alleged harassment and intimidation.

“We have resulted not to attend any summons by the senate committee n public accounts until when they will stop intimidating us,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Last week during the committee sitting Nairobi County Governor Evans Kidero was allegedly involved in a physical fight with Senator Mike Sonko when he appeared before the committee to respond to audit queries.
