Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has poked holes into Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) boss Francis Atwoli's recent proposal.
Addressing workers during Labor Day celebrations in Nairobi's Uhuru Park on May 1, Atwoli proposed a constitutional amendment to retain the retiring President Uhuru Kenyatta in government, noting that he is unsuitable for retirement basing on his young age and will be idle.
However, speaking on AM Live on Monday, the Senator laughed off the remarks, urging the head of state to ignore the proposal and exit after the 2022 general polls, in line with the constitution.
He accused Atwoli of misleading Kenyans, advising Kenyatta to embark on other nation building initiatives and leave the nation's leadership to new leaders.
''The President should ignore Atwoli and proceed into his retirement. There are many other things he can do and will be appointed to do as a former head of state. He could also open a library and share his ideas and leadership skills with our new generation,'' said the Senator.
''By referring to Uhuru as young, where does Atwoli place Kenyans aged between 18 and 35 and who make up the majority of our population? They too must be given a chance,'' he stated.
Uhuru is, however, yet to comment on the debate.
