Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has criticised Governor Hassan Joho's two projects; the garbage collection system and the planned Sh200 billion redevelopment of old estates to accommodate low income earners.
The lawmaker wants relevant agencies to probe claims that the county irregularly awarded the contract for garbage collection through single-sourcing.
Omar says the county annually pays Sh300 million for the service but Mombasa City is filthy.
“I have established that the county government irregularly allocated the contract for the collection of garbage through single sourcing in contravention of Public Procurement and Assets Disposal Act 2015 to a company whose directors are believed to be close associates or confidants of the County Governor,” Omar said in a press address on Monday.
“The said company has been irregularly paid a sum of Sh300 million annually for garbage collection.”
He also alleges that the multi-billion housing project could lead to privatisation of public housing.
