Addressing the media on Sunday, Omar said peace and security are fundamental for any thriving society.

"Peace and security are the fundamental basis for all existence. For civilisation to thrive and societal harmony to be attained," Omar said on Sunday.

He called on the government to ensure the rights of every citizen are protected.

"The State has unalienable responsibility of upholding basic human rights. Contrary actions of extra judicial killings threaten to haemorrage the spirit of the constitution," he said.

"It's high time the shackles of impunity are broken," he added.

In addition, Omar called on the government to form a commission of inquiry to look in to the matter of extra judicial killings in the country.

"Today, we are calling for the establishment of a Judicial Inquiry to investigate all cases of extra judicial killings," Omar added.

His remarks come after a city lawyer Willy Kimani, his client and a taxi driver were killed under mysterious circumstances in Machakos County after a court appearance and their bodies dumped in Ol-Donyo Sabuk River.

Three AP officers have been arrested in connection with the deaths and will be arraigned in court on Monday.
