Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has spoken out about why he has not been attending National Super Alliance (NASA) campaign rallies.
The Wiper Party Secretary General has been absent in NASA’s key rallies since April.Omar, has, however, said that his absence in the rallies should not worry supporters. The Mombasa governor hopeful noted that he was marshaling support for NASA in the grass roots. In an interview with The Star, Omar said he is working on a strategy that will ensure NASA clinches all votes in Mombasa on August 8.“Let people not speculate on my absence in NASA’s key campaigns because I am equally campaigning for Raila- Kalonzo bid,” said Omar, as quoted by the daily.Omar said he has been meeting opinion leaders, civil rights groups, youth, women and religious leaders in bid to consolidate numbers for NASA in Mombasa. He asked the coalition to focus its campaigns in Jubilee strongholds, arguing that campaigning in regions where they enjoy massive support is irrelevant. “What we (NASA) should be doing is to campaign in UhuRuto’s backyards and not our own strongholds,” he said.He laughed off plans to have Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho campaign for NASA in Kisumu, terming the move unnecessary and a waste of time since the region is Raila’s stronghold.
