Lamu Women Representative Shakila Abdalla has lauded Mombasa governor hopeful Hassan Omar for picking a woman as his running mate.
Shakila said Omar’s move is laudable adding that women will rally behind his bid to unseat Governor Hassan Joho.In an interview with People Daily, Shakila urged other gubernatorial aspirants to pick women as their running mates.She said women have workable solutions to problems facing the society and will make an impact if they are included in top leadership.“It is laudable for senator Omar to pick a woman as his running mate and other gubernatorial aspirants should do the same,” she said as quoted by People Daily.On Monday, Omar picked Linda Shuma, a 39 year-old businesswoman as his running mate.Omar said his administration will champion women interests, and accused the current government of sidelining women in leadership; a move he said contravenes the constitution.“My government will champion equality and fairness in administration of county affairs if I am elected in August,” he said.Omar, who is contesting on a Wiper ticket, is seeking to unseat Governor Hassan Joho in the August 8 polls.
