Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has officially kicked off his bid to unseat Governor Hassan Joho in the August polls with aggressive campaigns in Joho's Kisauni political backyard.
Whereas Joho was in Nandi County campaigning for NASA on Sunday, the Senator took the opportunity to raid the governor’s stronghold in his bid to cast wide his political support base. While in Kisauni, Omar held a series of inspirational discussions with various groups. He asked them to support his bid for the top county job in August 8 polls. As always, Omar castigated Joho's leadership which he says has contributed to increased poverty levels as it has failed to address basic needs of the residents. He outlined various plans he has for the county should he emerge the winner in the hotly contested seat, with youth empowerment being top of his agenda.Omar's visit to the area came barely a day after Suleiman Shahbal of Jubilee who is also in the gubernatorial race, raided the area asking residents to reject the incumbent's re-election bid due to failed deliverables. With the latest development, Kisauni constituency which is the hinterland of Mombasa politics will determine the next Mombasa County chief as various aspirants frequent the populous constituency pitching for their election.
