Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has said NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka must reward Coast residents if they form the next government after the August 8 polls.
Omar, who is seeking to unseat Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho said if NASA ascends to power in August, it should give the key ministries such as Defence, Internal Security, Finance, Foreign Affairs and Infrastructure to people who hail from the Coast region.Speaking in Mombasa on Wednesday during an Iftar dinner at the Burhani grounds, Omar said past regimes have made people from the Coast “flower girls who only get minor ministerial positions”.“We are usually given the insignificant Ministries of Gender and Sports, Youth Affairs and Tourism. Do we look like tourists?” asked Omar, as quoted by the Nation. The outspoken Senator said people from the Coast region are educated and able to manage the big ministries in the country. He also said land issues in the Coast must be addressed by the NASA government within the first three years.
