Kisumu County leadership has condemned actions of the police that left a trail of injuries and deaths.
The County Senator Fred Outa said the action of the people in the recent days is anchored in the constitution.
He said it is a right of the people to demonstrate against a repressive government like what is currently happening.
“What is happening in Kisumu is regrettable, police is killing our people for boycotting the elections,” he said.
Speaking in Kisumu on Saturday, the Senator said the locals cannot afford to be killed when they exercise their constitutional rights.
He asked the police to stop senseless killings and offer protection to the locals and their property.
“Police is mandated to offer protection and what they are now doing is unacceptable and out of their mandate,” he said.
At the moment four people shot by the police in Kisumu and had the bullet lodged in their bodies will not be operated.
This follows doctors’ professional advice that the four will live with the bullet for the rest of their lives.
The doctors advised that it is safe for them when the bullet are not removed that have them removed.
The county recorded 53 cases of police brutality of which three died as a result of gunshot wounds.
