Taita Taveta Senator Dan Mwazo pulled a political surprise when he ditched the Raila Odinga-led ODM party for Uhuru Kenyattta's Jubilee, a move that ended many weeks of speculation regarding his future in the Orange Party.
Speaking on Monday, a day after he was officially received by President Kenyatta at Tononoka, the soft-spoken Senator said that he decided to join the winning team ahead of the August polls.According to Mwazo, his decision to quit the opposition was informed by his desire to ensure that his community enjoys the fruits of development."I want to be in the winning team and the winning team is Jubilee," he said.On Jubilee's chances of being re-elected in August, the Senator said that Jubilee has the numbers to springboard their bid for a second term in office. He claimed that perceived Jubilee strongholds have registered over 10 million voters as compared to the opposition's nine million voters which he says will play a key role in President Kenyatta's pursuit for a second term in office.Mwazo's defection to Jubilee has complicated the opposition's arithmetic in the region even as the rival Jubilee camp continues to gain ground in the region that overwhelmingly voted for Raila Odinga in 2013.
