Ruto has since been blamed for the failed attempt, after reportedly showing up at Moi's Kabarak home in Nakuru county on Thursday unannounced, with the Senator now saying that his act was justifiable.

Speaking to Citizen TV on Friday, Cherargei defended Ruto, noting that he does not need any formal announcement before meeting Moi according to the Kalenjin culture.

"You do not need to make any formal announcement before visiting a sick person in the Kalenjin culture, Ruto did no wrong in visiting Moi who is still recovering from his recent knee surgery in Israel," he said.

He accused Moi's son and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi of blocking the meeting, blaming him for the embarrassment that has befallen Ruto's camp after the DP was forced to leave after waiting for hours at the lounge.

He took a swipe at Gideon for negatively influencing Moi in a bid to settle initial scores with the DP, alleging that he advised the ex-head of state against availing himself for the consultations.

"It is unfortunate that people around the retired president are using their closeness to him to victimize others over political differences," he added.

Gideon is, however, yet to speak on the matter.
