Nyamira Senator Kennedy Mong'are Okong'o now wants the government to take urgent steps to help cancer patients seeking treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital. Speaking on the phone to this writer on Wednesday, Mongare said it is shameful in this time and age for the Kenyan government that uses billions of shillings on political rallies to lack wards/hostels for vulnerable cancer patients who travel long distances to seek medication in Nairobi. "Which health equipment is the government boasting to have bought for the county hospitals when we have thousands of cancer patients drawn from all over the country sleeping on the corridors at KNH? " posed Mong'are. The Senator wondered why the government has taken long to build hostels for patients and in any case not been able to explain why it won't hire temporary houses in the city to accommodate the patients while looking for a long term solution. This comes after Citizen TV recently highlighted the struggles and hardships cancer patients go through at Kenya's biggest referral hospital.
