Deputy President William Ruto should not accompany his Party Leader President Uhuru Kenyatta in his tour of Homa Bay County, area Senator Moses Kajwang’ has warned.
Kajwang' said Ruto is not welcome in the county in the Nyanza region but the President is free to visit on any day of his choice.
“I have been informed that the President is soon visiting this county. We are telling him to exclude Ruto in his entourage during the visit,” Kajwang’ said as quoted by the Daily Nation.
He spoke during an ODM youth convention in Homa Bay held at town hall.
The Senator's remarks have attracted heavy criticism from Jubilee leaders in the area who have accused the politician of perpetrating prejudice in the country.
Led by the region's head of presidential campaign team and Karachuonyo MP James Rege, the leaders said the Deputy President, like any other Kenyan, is free to travel to all parts of the country.
“The senator needs to understand his role well because he has no mandate to dictate to the President whom to travel with because Homa Bay is part of Kenya like other regions,” Rege told the media on Monday.
Jubilee Party coordinator in Homa Bay Odhiambo Makowiti reprimanded Kajwang' telling him he should treat other leaders as he would expect his party leader Raila Odinga to be treated in other regions.
"His presidential candidate Raila cannot be made president by votes from Homa Bay alone, he also needs votes from other counties. How will they achieve their objective if a similar rule is also applied in other parts of the country?” Makowiti posed.
