Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has been told to involve the youths, women and disabled persons in the running of the county.
County senator James Mungai while addressing news reporters at the county headquarters on Friday said the county must engage the youth in its development agenda.
The senator intimated that the constitution requires the county to have youth, women and disabled persons represented in key matters taking place in the county.
“Governor Mbugua should make sure that women , youths and people with disability are involved in key decisions and activities in the county,” said Mungai.
The senator said that youth unemployment will be fought if the government initiates and implements proper policies.
Mungai observed that many youth are languishing in unemployment hence need for the government to make serious decisions especially on job creation.
He added that fighting unemployment will be the platform for development adding that many youth have opted to join criminal gangs.
“Unemployment is a serious problem that needs urgent measures both from the national and the county government,” he said.
Mungai at the same urged women, youths and disabled persons to take advantage of the Uwezo fund and improve their lives.
He said that the fund was specifically created for them and that they should seek the funds.
The senator called on county assembly to draft bills and policies that will agitate for the rights of marginalized groups.
He said that the assembly apart from its oversight role should fight for the rights of the people who have been marginalised.
Mungai said that the senate will continue to make and support laws that will empower county governments.
