Nyamira Senator Okong’o Mong’are wants the general elections pushed to March 18, 2018.
According to the Senator, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is not prepared for the August 8, 2017 poll.
He said the electoral body has demonstrated it is not ready for next year's polls by advocating for serious mutilation of newly enacted election laws.
Speaking to reporters at his Nyamira home on Monday, Mong’are said that early campaigns by both Jubilee and Cord outfits have plunged the country into an election mood which is derailing preparations for the fast approaching 2017 elections.
He petitioned President Uhuru Kenyatta to call for a national crisis meeting to address emerging issues which are threatening to undermine the credibility of the poll.
“I am asking the President to call Raila, Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wateng’ula, religious leaders and other stakeholders to iron out issues which are threatening the next poll from being transparent and fair are addressed,” said Mong’are.
Mong’are also faulted IEBC for fuelling more wrangles in the election process by awarding a tender for audit of the voters register to a firm without proven record for the job.
"KPMG is a financial management firm and has nothing to do with voter registration. The tender should be cancelled," he said.
He asked Kenyans to support him in calling for the extension of the election timetable period so that enough preparations for a free and fair elections are made.
