Doctors and nurses working at the public health centers in Nyamira County have been asked to close their private clinics to concentrate on serving the increased number of patients seeking medical services at the public health centers.
Nyamira County senator Okong’o Omogeni said most medical staffs in the region have opened private clinics and they have failed to offer quality services at the public health facilities.
“I call upon doctors and nurses who have opened private clinics to close them down so that they can have enough time attending residents seeking medical care at the public health facilities,” he said.
The senator said some doctors and nurses who have been employed by the county government are stealing drugs to stock at their private clinics to sell to residents at high prices yet the drugs were bought to be given for free to patients.
“Governor Nyagarama should take an action to whoever who has opened up a private clinic and still working at the public health centers to curb theft of drugs,” he said.
He reiterated that Nyamira residents deserve access to good health care and the county should focus on offering quality and affordable health care to the people.
