Members of Uasin Gishu County Assembly have been challenged to work closely with the executive arm of the county government so as to ensure quality service delivery to the people.
The ward representatives have also been asked to avoid negative competition between the executive and the assembly that characterized many devolved units across the country.
While giving her maiden address to the Uasin Gishu County Assembly on Thursday, Senator Prof. Margaret Kamar pledged to work closely with the MCA's to ensure "we not only deliver our promises to the people but also create a conducive environment for development in our county."
"Unity of purpose will be my goal. Responsibility, accountability, and respect for each arm of government will be my call to all of us," noted Prof. Kamar.
"Negative competition between the executive and the assembly has no place in progressive democracies and can detail delivery if services. It's therefore important that each arm of government plays their role, we cultivate a culture of mutual respect and harmony because joint effort is an ingredient of success in service delivery," she added.
The Jubilee allied Senator, however, challenged the MCA's never to be afraid of executing their oversight role which is paramount to the implementation of devolution.
"Oversight is never a witch-hunting agenda but smooth process of ensuring things are done according to plan and to the satisfaction of our constituents. Putting the executive to account is a decent responsibility protected in law and should never be misused or misunderstood," noted Prof. Kamar.
