The latest calls by Nyamira Senator Mong'are Okong'o to have Governor John Nyagarama impeached through collection of signatures over corruption-related cases received a boost after Bogichora residents appeared to be supporting the senator.
Speaking on Monday at a burial ceremony in the region, speaker after speaker sided with the senator by accusing Governor Nyagarama of impunity and opaqueness in running county.
The intrigues between the two leaders escalated on Sunday with the senator calling for a probe to alleged misappropriation of funds as the Governor hit back accusing the senator of ‘politics of witch hunt.’
“The fact remains that our governor is very insensitive in initiating viable projects. Since he took over, he has never come with concrete projects that can vindicate him of the claims by the senator,” said former councillor Julius Nyakundi.
Senator Mong’are told reporters on Sunday he had written to the auditor general to scrutinise the usage of public funds or initiate collection of signatures to have the governor impeached by the senate.
The two leaders have never seen each other eye to eye for over a year after deferring on matters pertaining to development of the county with the senator accusing Nyagarama of corruption deals while the governor blaming the senator for allegedly interfering with his job at the county level.
