Senators on Wednesday called for the suspension of debate on the proposed election laws.
Senate Minority Leader Moses Wetangula said during Senate's special session convened to debate the proposed amendment to the Elections Act, 2011 that developments unfolding at the time of debate on the new laws were questionable.
Prior to the Senate debate on Wednesday, there was heavy deployment of Regular and Administration police and General Service Unit personnel around Parliament and Kenyatta International Convention Centre.
When Parliament endorsed the proposed legislation recently, similar scenes characterized Parliament environs as police barricaded roads leading to Parliament.
"Mr Speaker Sir, what I have witnessed today, is something I haven't witnessed since I joined Parliament,' Wetangula said.
"The best we can do now is indefinitely suspend debate on this proposed amendment until we sober up."
Majority of Senator condemned the deployment of security personnel outside Parliament before the Senate convened.
Senators claimed they were forced to abandon their cars at Intercontinental Hotel and walk to the Senate Premises.
Kakamega's Bony Khalwale, Nandi's Kipyego Sang, Vihiga's George Khaniri and Janet Ong'era (Nominated) all condemned the manner in which the executive was meddling into the affairs of legislators.
Senate Speaker Ekwe Ethuro, however, later ordered for the withdrawal of police officer deployed around Parliament.
