The High Court on Thursday dismissed a petition challenging the election victory of Wajir Senator Ali Abdullahi.

Justice Richard Mwongo in his ruling said that the petitioners could not prove their allegations that the election was riddled with malpractices.

The judge ruled that none of the allegations levelled against the senator in the petitions were substantiated.

He said the petitioners failed to convince the court how errors and omissions during the election could affect or alter the final results which were declared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Justice Mwongo in his ruling declared that Mr Abdullahi was validly elected as the Senator for Wajir county.

The petition was filed by Mr Abdirahman Abdkadir of ODM and Mr Adow Mohammed Abikar who ran on a Kanu ticket.

The two had moved to court seeking to nullify the results of the Wajir senator-elect claiming that the election was not free and fair.

Mr Abikar had claimed that his agents were denied access to a number of polling centres and there was no security for ballot papers, and that extra ballots were in circulation.
