A team from the Senate on Monday gave governors a football lesson after thrashing them 5-0 in a football match at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County.
Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala was the star player after netting a brace with Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka, Senate Majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen and Philip Mpaayei (Kajiado) scoring a goal each.
“Today we the Senate of Kenya beat our friends the Governors 5 nil in a devolution football match played in Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega. Sen.Malala 2 Speaker Lusaka 1 Sen.Mpayei 1 and yours truly 1,” posted Murkomen on his official Facebook page.
Later on, in the same venue, a team of Members of County Assembly (MCAs) silenced the Senators team 1-0.
The games were used as a curtain raiser for the fifth devolution conference that will be officially opened by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday.
Over 6,000 delegates from the 47 counties are expected to attend the devolution conference themed 'sustainable, productive, effective and efficient governments for results delivery'.
The five-day annual event will be held at the Kakamega Highschool.
