[Photo|Parliament of Kenya] Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka has issued a keynote address and officially opened the week-long Induction Workshop for Senators of the 12th Parliament.The workshop running under the theme: “Understanding the Mandate of the Senate: Towards Optimum Legislative Output” aims to assist Senators in getting acquainted with the integral role and mandate of the Senate within and amidst a highly evolving and inter-connected governance architecture including its linkages with other Constitutional bodies.

“Senators are duty-bound, and have the opportunity to make the Senate a remarkable institution of governance, that is positively felt and is seen to be responsive to the needs and aspirations of the Kenyan people,” said Lusaka.In his welcoming remarks, the Clerk of Senate, Jeremiah Nyegenye noted that, “the hallmark of a legislator is the humility to learn and to build one’s capacity.”The workshop kicked-off Monday September 18-22.
