National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) chairman Francis Ole Kaparo has criticised Senators and Members of County Assembly (MCA’s) for turning the Second Annual Legislative Summit in Mombasa into a vacation.
Pride Inn Paradise Beach Resort had several empty seats as the legislators were seen relaxing at the beach while others taking selfies despite the government spending huge sums of tax payers’ money on their trips. Ole Kaparo said it is wrong for the politicians to have fun when they should be discussing matters of national interest. “At a great cost, Kenyans brought you here to participate in this important meeting. You came here by air, air ticket paid for you, you were booked in luxurious five-star hotels but the seats are empty here,” he said, as quoted by Nairobi News. Kaparo asked the leaders to take matters concerning the common Mwananchi seriously. “Kenyan leaders, I plead with you to take serious your roles and jobs. There must be seriousness, honestly. We must respect the public funds that we utilize in this forum. I may even go one step further and say, it may be time for us to rethink the whole concept of having all the meetings in Mombasa,” he added.
