Speaking in an address during the burial of Kisumu County environment director Thomas Sweta on Saturday, the county boss accused the senators of being too self centred in their bids.

“At least senators found structures in place because we attained independence in 1963. But with devolution we needed time to build structures,” he said.

“Senators did not know what governorship entailed. They thought the governor was the chairman of the county council. I don’t understand how they read the constitution," he added.

Oparanya accused the senators of targeting to ‘eat meat’ which they had discovered exists at the county level.

"They are now all over the place trying to become governors," he said, adding the example of whom he termed as "that noisy person" (assumed to be Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale).
