The Senate football feam thrashed the Governors’ team 5-0 in an exhibition match at the Bukhungu Stadium ahead of Tuesday’s official opening of the 5th Annual Devolution Conference in Kakamega County.
Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala scored two goals, while Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen, Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka, and Kajiado Senator Philip Mpaayei scored a goal apiece to humiliate the governors.
Senators and governors have on most occasions been on a war path due to management of resources at the counties, but today, they were united by a game of football.
Meanwhile, the 5th devolution conference kicked off on Monday with registration and accreditation taking the better part of the first day.
The Conference will be officially opened by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday.
The Devolution Conferences normally provide stakeholders with an opportunity to take stock of the achievements, challenges and providing recommendations on how to improve management of the devolved units.
During this year’s edition, the conference will focus on how the county integrated development plan can be merged into the national agenda.
The event will be officially opened tomorrow and will run till Friday.
It is expected to attract over 6,000 participants from 47 counties and beyond.
Apart from President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga are expected to grace the occasion.
