The committee, that toured Thika, Kiambu Town and Wangige after meeting Governor William Kabogo, noted that the county traders are the backbone of Kiambu’s economy and, therefore, the county government must respect them.

The Senators, who were led by Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi, were met by large crowds of traders who sought to know whether they had reached an agreement with the county government.

"We will follow this matter until all traders are satisfied with the levies being charged on them," said Wamatangi in Wangige.

Senator Bonny Khalwale of Kakamega said Kiambu County must set a good example to other counties since it is the president's backyard.

"The President must not allow governors to impose levies that are going to lead to the collapse of businesses," said Khalwale.

Other senators present were Peter Mositet (Kajiado) and John Lonyangapuo from West Pokot.
