Government has been challenged to send DAP fertilizers and maize seeds to Kenya seeds offices in time to help small-scale farmers to do their planting early.
According to Kisii county small scale farmers, government delay to send fertilizers and maize seeds to Kenya Seeds offices prompts them not to do their planting in time something that leads to poor harvesting when they delay.
Addressing the press on Tuesday in Kisii town farmers led by Julius Omanga lamented that the government has delayed in sending DAP fertilizers to Kisii town Kenya seeds office in time .
“This is the time of planting but the government has delayed in bringing us fertilizer and maize seeds and this makes poor harvesting because we delay in planting,” said Omanga.
They also accused Kisii town Kenya seeds officers by alleging that once they receive fertilizer from the government they sell to rich farmers leaving out small-scale farmers.
They also asked the price of fertilizer and maize seeds to be reduced to make it easy for them to access.
