Errant school heads sending students away for fee in public schools have been put on notice by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In his 40-minute address to Kebirigo residents on Wednesday, Kenyatta cautioned primary school heads against the vice and also promised to take action against public secondary schools sending candidates home for examination fee.
“The government has worked hard to ensure primary school education is free. Its uncouth to hear that a number of teachers are still charging fee contrary to the government’s policy and this will not be taken lightly,” Uhuru said.
“For secondary schools, no candidate should be send home for examination fee because it’s fully catered for. I urge parents to report such cases to government authorities so that a stern action is taken,” he added.
The Head of State also threw a scathing attack to school heads withholding completion certificates of students and warned them of tough challenges ahead if they failed to implement the government policy.
“It’s pretty useless to hold certificates of children on petty reasons that they haven’t completed fee. Prepare for tough times ahead if you fail to implement our policy and that is for sure,” he said.
The President was accompanied by education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i and senior officials from the county government of Nyamira.
