Nominated MCA Esther Njeri Magere, has warned parents against sending their children to school in the wee hours of the morning following increased rape cases.
Speaking to the press in Naivasha, Ms Njeri complained on parents sending their children to school as early as 5.30 AM.
“Majority of the defilers have now started looking into children´s school-going patterns, where they are waylayed and end up getting defiled,” she said.
Njeri lamented that there was an upsurge of abused girls especially during school days. She also noted that some of the sex predators took advantage of the rainy season to trap and rape the children.
“We have seen cases of children coming from school as late as seven o’clock, which makes them vulnerable to any person who comes their way,” she added. Further demanding that parents provide escort to their children to a safe environment if need be.
“We are also appealing to the parents to take keen note on their children including any behavior change. They are the best to know if their children have been abused as they interact with them on a daily basis,” she added.
She also called on teachers in the county to help the children understand what to do in case they are raped.
