Senegal head coach Aliou Cisse has expressed regret after surrendering their lead twice to draw 2-2 against Japan.
Cisse is disappointed that they were unable to replicate the performance displayed against Poland. Senegal now faces a daunting task when they face Colombia who beat Poland 3-0 in the other group tie.
Cisse specifically was disappointed by the surrender of the lead after they twice went ahead.
“Of course we have regrets. We must acknowledge that we didn’t see a great Senegalese performance in comparison to the match against Poland,” Cisse said after the match.
Cisse who was part of the team that reached quarterfinals in 2002 hopes that they will get the best results against Colombia. Senegal targets at least a draw in that match to progress.
"We were not very good frankly, and Japan were the better team, I have to admit that. But despite that fact, we led twice and what’s annoying for me is the two goals we conceded. Japan played as expected; they are a very technical team with such good quality in that respect," he added.
"We pressured them well at the start and they made some errors, which we exploited. But as soon as we gave them some space, it became difficult for us. Now we have to hope for the best when we face Colombia," Cisse added.
Sadio Mane and Moussa Wague scored the two goals for Senegal while second-half substitute Keisuke Honda and Takashi Inui ensured Japan picked the vital point against the AFCON nation.
